13. Electronics – lights, computers, gps etc, cell phone… The Beginners guide to Bicycle touring

pedaling for peace electronics 1's and 0'sDepends really on what kind of trip you are having.  If like us you are riding for a cause, then you will want to stay connected.  If you simply like to stay in touch, or are addicted to FB, or texting [do not do while biking, yes we have already seen countless cases of it, absolutely not a good idea], then you will want to bring some stuff with you.  Perhaps you plan to run a business from the road… etc.

We have a small computer given to us by Diana’s father and an iPad that I won in a contest.

If you bring small electronics of any sort, phone, ipad/pod/whatever, computer, make sure you have them as safe from the elements as possible.  There are many options for this and you can find what suits you and your budget.

Try to pack them in such a way that your clothes protect them.  This is for when the bike falls over, which, it almost invariably does.

If you are going into some deep country, solar panels, lots of companies make them, read the specs carefully or you may not have the juice you need.

If you are going to a foreign country, you will most likely need a converter… Mexico uses the same as the U.S., so youre good to go.
